This bespoke piece sits within the majestic karst formations of the Kinta Valley and was entirely constructed during the CoV-19 pandemic amidst the multiple lockdowns. The name Teja Luna captures the brilliance of the crescent’s radiance upon the structure, as it mirrors off the lake
The main concept of the building comes from the curves of the lake it fronts. The roof takes advantage of the evaporative cooling effect provided by the water body, gently lifting and opening up to the picturesque views of the lake and limestone cliffs beyond.
The bamboo structure’s assembled by a series of portal frames that support a recycled timber upper floor and radiate to make a half doughnut plan. An inner ring facing the water has rafters gathered by 2 preformed semi circular bamboo split ring beams. Overhanging hammocks from the upper level add to the chill factor.
One of the main features is the initiative to prefabricate the bamboo off-site, saving time and labour cost and pioneering a more efficient method to build with bamboo.
